One Step Fertilizer for Lawns
Green Mountain Fertilizer (GMF) is made by the L. D. Oliver Seed Company in Milton, Vermont. The Essex County Co-Op carries an extensive lineup of GMF fertilizers, including One Step for Lawns. One Step is a combination of fertilizer and pelletized lime. A 12-3-7 formula provides nitrogen for growth, phosphorus for root development, and potassium for all around plant health. 2% of this product is iron; this will help create a deep green lawn as grass needs iron to make chlorophyll, a chemical necessary for photosynthesis.
The beauty of ‘One Step’ is that not only are you providing valuable nutrients to your lawn but also liming at the same time. Lime will help correct soil acidity, which is a common problem in our area. A neutral pH will maximize nutrient availability. At $19.99 for a 40-pound bag, you virtually get the lime for free. A 40-lb bag covers 5,000 square feet.
Try to water your lawn three days prior to application; this will ensure that your grass is not drought stressed. After application, water your lawn to wash this product off your grass and into your soil. Watering and not over applying is critical to preventing lawn damage. We advise not fertilizing your lawn in the hot summer months. One Step is a granulated product and is easily applied with a broadcast spreader.
