These need plenty of water, nutrients and time to grow before they begin to form sprouts. Covering the plants with row covers after they are sown/transpanted will help to exclude pests. Plants can be left in the garden into the winter as they are hardy to 10°F and frost will actually improve the flavor. They are great deep fried, steamed or roasted and the plants resemble little palm trees.
